First Time Breeder Promotion Program

First Time Breeder

The Registry would like to congratulate the following first time breeders that participated in the 2016 First Time Breeder Program:

Tom’s Greatest Showman -  Bred By Currie Carbonel

It’s Time To Roll -  Bred By Laura Lynn Onan

Heir Of Independence

I was absolutely thrilled to be allowed to participate in the first time breeder's program! I chose Mountainview's Heir to Fortune and was blessed with a gorgeous black colt that I named Heir of Independence on the 4th of July 2017.

Fred Sarver at Cornerstone was wonderful and easy to work with through the whole process. I definitely learned that breeding can be very stressful at times, and my mare tortured me by carrying Sherlock an extra 3 weeks! In the end it was worth all the stress and worry though, because I have a gorgeous and talented colt that I cant wait to start into training next year!

Thank you so much for starting this program! I might not have been able to breed to a stallion as amazing as Heir to Fortune without it!

Knight’s Northern Light

Without the first-time breeders’ program this dream never would have been realized. Living in Canada we have limited selection of Stallions. Having the opportunity to breed to our mare without the cost of a stud fee helped me make the decision to breed. After being involved with the American Saddlebred all my life, I decided to lease a mare from my parents and breed to The Knight’s Reflection. On May 27, 2017 a star, Knight’s Northern Light (Zena), was born.

Zena has shown in our Futurity as a weanling, and also a yearling and has been awarded Futurity In-Hand Grand Champion both years. I would like to thank Kit Calafato for the opportunity to breed to The Knight’s Reflection and to the First-Time Breeder’s program for the wonderful opportunity. Thank you for all you do for our amazing breed.

Commanding Kiss

Commanding Kiss

Thank you for the First Time Breeders Program!  My trainer Jim Lowry said that I should select Tango's Parting Kiss as a stallion for my Santana Charm mare. I was thrilled that the Shiflet's chose me.

This breeding has resulted in a dream come true- Commanding Kiss. I have since acquired more ASHA mares and have purchased two more breedings to Tango's Parting Kiss directly from the Shiflets and also acquired another through the Wisconsin Stallion Auction.

Petite Bleu

Thank you for reaching out about my experience with the first time breeder's program - I may not have the opportunity to be a first time breeder again, but am definitely hooked, and through opportunities presented through the Stallion Sweeps and our local UPHA chapter's fundraising auctions I have two more babies on the way in 2019. Petite Bleu aka "Phoebe" was born on 5/5/17. She was the first foal for my retired show mare, Wing's Lady Liberty and 2016 First Time Breeder's Stallion - Mont Bleu, a Blue Norther son.

Phoebe was (and still is) the smallest of the foal crop born at Linden Hill Stables last year, thus her name.  We found out during this process how much my mare, "Lady", loves her job as a broodmare - easy to get in foal, and a very careful, patient mother.  "Phoebe" has been a joy since the day she was born, very people oriented and curious, the first to greet you in the pasture.  She's recently come into the training barn to start learning her lessons, and has the best attitude!  She's game, go forward and truly wants to please - can't ask for more than that! Whether her job is as a five gaited pony or in hunter country pleasure, I have no doubt she'll be a great partner to myself or another Saddlebred enthusiast in the very near future!  The first time breeder program helps defray some of the costs of raising your own foal, and is a great opportunity to experience the process for yourself as a Saddlebred owner.  Personally, watching Phoebe learn and grow as a young horse in training is my favorite part.

I'm very lucky to have her in the excellent care of Jana Gonzales and Lisa Hillmer at Linden Hill Stables. They have great communication, and a process I've personally seen and reaped the benefits of in purchasing Nirvcracker as a two year old prospect in training and then watching him be crowned RWC in 3yo fine harness this year. I'd encourage anyone who has the means and interest to consider the first time breeder program. If you have the time and patience, breeding and raising your own Saddlebred may be more cost effective than buying a seasoned, finished show horse and it's so much fun along the way! Sorry this may be a bit wordier than what you were looking for, but when you get me talking about my horses, I can't help it!!
