Sandra Currier Inducted into Texas American Saddlebred Hall of Fame

Published Date: Mar 08, 2019

The Texas (TASHA) & North Texas American Saddlebred Horse Associations (NTASHA), charter clubs of the American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA), are pleased to announce that the 2018-19 inductee to the Texas American Saddlebred Hall of Fame will be Sandra Currier.

Sandra has been involved with American Saddlebreds for over 30 years, beginning her career at Maynard Casler’s Misty Hills Stables in New York.  She came to Texas in 1994 as a trainer working for Mr. & Mrs. Ed Perwien at Bluebonnet Farms in Bellville.  As head trainer and manager at Bluebonnet, she has developed or started outstanding horses from the Perwien’s breeding program and from clients.  Notable horses include RWC Blue Sapphire, WC Selena’s Song, RWC CH She-Bop, RWC Be Bop Lady, RWC Bluebonnet’s Challenger, RWC Xuxa, RWC MMMBop, RWC Sudoku, WC Nella Fantasia, CH Uncut Jewel, CH Tuffy’s Miss Allison, WC Bluebonnet’s Hip Hop, WC CH Carmen Miranda TM, WC Albert Kaponey, iPod, and RWC Ch iTunes.

Sandra is also the volunteer in charge of the Saddle Horse Futurity of Texas and has worked diligently, almost singlehandedly, to bring this futurity into one of the top Saddlebred futurities in the country.  She uses her contacts with stallion owners to get donations to the annual auction fundraiser and works non-stop to promote and raise funds for Texas.  As a result, the payouts and entries for the weanling breeders limited and other classes held at the NTASHA show in Fort Worth, TX each year have grown substantially under her leadership.

Sandra has volunteered with TASHA in many capacities over the years and is always willing to do whatever is needed for them to host successful horse shows as well as grow as an organization.  She also supports other community events like the Historic Outdoor Living Museum in Spindletop, TX which has deep roots in our breed, Education Day at Pin Oak, and local parades just to name a few.

Nationally, she was a coach for the 2012 USA gold medal five gaited saddle seat team, currently an ASHA board member, President of the board of the American Saddlebred Registry, and a well-respected judge with cards in Saddle Seat Equitation, American Saddlebreds, Roadster horse and ponies, and Hackney and harness ponies.  She is a member of USEF, ASHA, UPHA, ARHPA and AHHS, and she brings all that expertise to Texas in any way she can to support and promote the breed and industry.

For all these reasons and more, Sandra Currier will be inducted into the Texas American Saddlebred Hall of Fame on Friday, March 22, 2019 during the evening breed show session at the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show in Katy, TX.  A trophy presentation and slideshow during a special break in classes will be followed by a reception after the show.  Admission to the show and grounds is free, and all are welcome to help honor this very important member of the Texas Saddlebred family.

The Texas Hall of Fame was created by the Texas charter clubs in 2007 and previous inductees include Pete Galanos, Mike Breeggemann, Jean Huffstickler, Dale Milligan, Candee Carlson, Dan Mize, Bob Marco, Marty Alan Wernle, Jack McGill, Jim Bray, Don Roby, Lee Shipman, Lonnie Quarles, Jim Skipton,

Beaulah & Elton Cates, Patty Milligan, Sue Roby, Dorothy Dukes Ford, Charlie Isom, and Ed & Ada Perwien.
