ASHA Breed Ambassador Program

This program recognizes and celebrates those who help to promote the American Saddlebred, whether they have one horse or one hundred, whether they live in the great west or in the heart of horse country, and whether they compete in saddle seat, dressage, trail riding, or not at all.

Any ASHA member who takes the time to reach out and share the breed with those outside our Saddlebred community can earn points to become a Regional Breed Ambassador, and possibly a World’s Champion Breed Ambassador! This year we have separate sheets for the three categories: Individual, Barn Group, and Charter Club. This should make the various activities more applicable to the way you participate in promoting the breed.  Just print up the sheet that applies to you and keep track of the things you’ve done throughout the year to share Saddlebreds with the outside world. Activities from January 1 of the calendar year can be tallied at any time, and you need not register in advance.

One of the easiest ways to earn points is by going to open shows, which allows our horses to shine in front of followers of all breeds. This is a terrific opportunity in areas where there are very few Saddlebred-only events, and just as important where the Saddlebred population is high.  Of course points can also be earned for riding in parades, getting on television or in magazines, going to exhibitions, and a myriad of other activities.  We recognize that no one outreach works in every area, and that anything we can do is valuable!  You may have a new idea that’s never been tried!

Professionals and Charter Clubs have an opportunity to be recognized too.  Even though you make money through outreach, the ASHA recognizes that many, if not most of the people active in the breed today were introduced through lesson programs and riding camps, so we want to thank you for all of your hard work. And while Charter Clubs are designed to promote the breed, we know that organizing events is time-consuming volunteer work, and want to recognize those efforts as well.  The ASHA believes that helping to administer this Breed Ambassador Program and reaching out to Saddlebred owners who might not be active in the charter club or ASHA is an easy way to create a sense of community among Saddlebred lovers, and further rally support for our breed.

Please check the Charter Club Regional Map to find your closest charter club. They will be collecting points at the end of the year, comparing notes with the other charter clubs in the region and identifying a Regional Champion and Reserve Champion. Regional Champions will be compared to name a World’s Champion and Reserve World’s Champion in each of the categories, and those winners will receive accolades at the Annual ASHA convention!

The ASHA and Charter Clubs are seeking donations of items of value to help reward our new Ambassadors. ASHA is a 501c3, and the donors will be named in press releases, social media, and on the website.
