Scripps Miramar Saddlebreds to be featured in the Rose Parade, Mon. Jan. 2

Lexington, Kentucky – The American Saddlebreds of Michele Macfarlane’s Scripps Miramar Ranch will be featured in the 117th Rose Parade Monday, January 2, 2006.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. EST and can be viewed commercial-free on HGTV, as well as on ABC, NBC, KTLA and many other networks.  This year, the parade will be seen in 89 international territories and is themed “It’s Magical.”

As one of more than 20 equestrian units, Macfarlane and the Scripps Miramar Saddlebreds will ride in Native American regalia and will represent the Blackfeet and other Northern Plains Nations.  The tack will include fully beaded plains’ motif, antique chicken snare and antique women’s saddles with beaded pommel and cantle flaps.  A total of 99 floats, equestrian units and marching bands will make their way through the streets of Pasadena, California.

Making the five and half mile parade route with Macfarlane are Kevin Michael, Ashley Hallock, Donald Trunk, Alan F. Balch, Charni Lewis and Christy Mallory.  Scripps Miramar will be unit number 57 in the parade and will follow the Southwest Dekalb High School Marching Panther Band and the FTD float featuring Las Vegas magician Lance Burton.  More information on the parade, route and order can be found on the HGTV website or the official Tournament of Roses website.

Scripps Miramar Ranch will also participate in Equestfest, December 30, 2005 at 11:30 a.m. PT in Burbank, California, at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center.  There, a number of the equestrians from the parade will perform and spectators will have the opportunity to walk through the stables, ask questions, take photographs and learn about the many breeds represented.

The stars of the Scripps Miramar Ranch unit are the standout Saddlebreds including Sunlight And Shadows, CHTommy Typhoon, CHThunder Country, CHThe Fire Fox, CHHalloween, CHNaranda and CHLike Thunder.

Macfarlane has been participating in the parade since the 1960s and looks forward to it each year.  Alan F. Balch, ASHA executive secretary, has participated in the parade before and appreciates the enthusiasm and effort Macfarlane puts forth each year.

“You really have to ride in the parade yourself to start to realize what tremendous dedication and real work goes into looking so great for those few minutes of television time,” Balch said.  “As lovers of the Saddlebred, we owe her an enormous debt of gratitude for always showing our breed so exceptionally well.”

Two of Scripps Miramar Ranch’s outstanding homebreds – Chubasco and CHCaravelle – will be featured in the new line of Breyer horses for 2006.  Chubasco, a World’s Champion sire, and CHCaravelle, considered by many one of the best pleasure horses in the history of the division, are a part of a limited edition collection that features Chubasco with a tri-color ribbon around his neck and CHCaravelle as a foal.  The pieces can be seen by clicking here.
