Saddlebred Trainer Joe Elam Passes Away

Lexington, Kentucky - Saddlebred Trainer Joe Elam passed away yesterday, Wednesday, July 14, at the age of 47.

Elam, most recently working with Blue Willow Farm in Versailles, Kentucky, was the trainer of such notable Saddlebreds as World's Champions I'm Something Wicked, Buckwheat, Bewitching Jewel, My Main Man and The Tango Dancer; Reserve World's Champions Helen's Charm and I'm Mr. Blue; and World's Champion of Champions, Ninety-Eight Degrees.

Elam is survived by his eight-year-old son Alex, and his two sisters and one brother, all from North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund has been set up in his son's name. Those wishing to donate may do so at:
